Peak (13’)

Program Notes:

The original idea for Peak came from the fact that all five of the musicians in the Bridge Music Collective, had connections to mountains growing up. But when I started thinking about this piece and chewing over the experience of climbing a mountain, I realized that the challenges that came to my mind weren’t physical journeys. Instead, I started thinking about emotional peaks — the highest highs and the lowest lows — and how those experiences are journeys too and ones that stick with us as much, or more, than the physical mountains we climb. So this piece takes us through the highs and lows of the lives of two people who came together for a while and then went their separate ways, but continued to parallel each other’s emotional peaks even without knowing it.
